eDistrict Project Launched in Sonitpur District

The e-district project was launched in Sonitpur district on 12th January’2010 in Tezpur at the District Library auditorium. Sonitpur has become the fourth district in the country to launch e-District mission mode project. AMTRON has implemented this project as the nodal agency of the state.

DC, Sonitpur Sri Rajesh Prasad welcomed the August gathering.The project was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare, IT & GDD Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. In his inaugural speech he stressed the importance of bringing the services offered by the district administration to the door steps of the common citizen through use of ICT. Not only would ICT enable time bound delivery of services to the citizens, it would also cut down red tapism and bring in transparency into the delivery of Govt. services. Common citizens would get benefited by not travelling long distances and getting services in their nearest Arunudoy Kendras (CSCs) for a nominal rate, The citizens will be able to collect the necessary certificates from their nearest Arunudoy Kendras by paying nominal fees. The Hon’ble Minister felt that the involvement of DC office and all officials would be necessary to make this project a success in the long run. Hon’ble Minister told that the existing manual system of providing certificates will be discontinued completely from 15th February 2010. Some of services to be provided under eDistrict project are PRC, Certified copy of Voter List, next of Kin certificate, Income Certificate, Jamabandi, delayed birth, delayed death certificate etc.

Hon’ble Minister of Soil Conservation, Fishery & Irrigation, Sri Nurjamal Sarkar expressed his happiness that Sonitpur is once again in the forefront of implementation of national level pilot project and expressed his confidence that this project would bring people closer to the Government. Hon’ble Speaker of Assembly Sri Tanka Bahadur Rai felt happy that IT department is taking bold initiative in implementation of some of the important e-Governence project in the state thereby making Assam one of the frontrunner in the country.

The function was also attended by Hon’ble MLA of Dhekiajuli constituency and ex MLA of Sootea constituency graced the function.
